Step I : Greetings

     The teacher greet the whole class.

Step II:  Words preview:

     Review some key words in this period.

Step III: Lead-in by reviewing.

   Last time we talked about some famous bands at home and abroad , do you still remember them

( students can say some of the band they talked in the sencond period.)

OK, at the last we refered to the Monkees and listened one of their song “I am a beliver”. Do you want to know more about The Monkees

(students may say YES)

Yeah, today we will continue to learn the story about The Monkees.

Step IV: Fast reading:

  Read the passage and try to find out:

1.      How many bands are mentioned in the passage? What are their names?

2.      Which band is “The Band That Wasn’t”?

Ask the students to read the text quickly and find out answers .

(Answers 1. Two. “The Beatles” and ” The Monkees”.

        2. “The Monkees”.)

Step V: Skimming:

   Skim the text and join the correct parts of the sentence together. (page 35)

Step VI : Scanning

   Ask students to scan the passage and Match main ideas with paragraphs. (PPT 8)

   Para 1: Many people want to be famous as singers or musicians.

   Para 2:This is how most bands start.

   Para 3: The Monkees started in a different way.

   Para 4: How the Monkees became popular and how they developed as a real band.

Step VII: Careful reading

   Let the students read the text carefully and try to fill the form on PPT 10—11 .

Step VIII: Summary

   Today we’ve learnt the passage about the band “The Monkees” and learnt something about music. Besides, we know their success lies in their hard work and their unique style of performance.

1. Read THT BAND THAT WASN’T again after class.

2. Finish exercise 3 and 4 on page 35..

3. Prepare for next period by underline the difficult points in the text.

Music can make us feel happy or peacefulenergize us to danceor move us to tears.As an orchestra conductor (指挥)Amy Andersson brings music to lifeallowing people to experience the feelings that music can bring.

Andersson fell in love with music as a child.She started to sing in the school choirs (合唱团) in the first gradebegan studying the piano at 7and started composing (作曲) at 9.Her school had no orchestrabut she bought  many recordings of great orchestras and conductors  and listened to them for  hours every day.

During a concertthe audience see the back of a conductor and the arm movements she or he uses to lead the orchestra.What the audience do not see is all the work the conductor has done beforehand to prepare for the performance.

Months before a concertAndersson studies a piece of music by playing it on the piano.She decides how she wants each part to sound.Should it be fast or slowLoud or softShe reads about the composer’s life and reviews historical events that would have influenced the composer.Her goal is to recreate the music as the composer wanted.

While conductingAndersson uses her whole body to express how the music should sound and feel.Her movements are dramatic (激动人心的) when the music is energetic and gentle when the music is peaceful.

Each instrument makes a special sound.Although it is not necessary for conductors to know how to play all of the instrumentsthey must be familiar with the sound of each instrument in the orchestra.To help young musicians understand how to play the musicAndersson will tell them to imagine a calmleisurely walk or a_ship_being_hit_by_waves.
